Visit to Harlow Carr
Our President's August trip this year was to Harlow Carr. Harlow Carr is the Royal Horticultural Society's most northern garden and covers 58 acres on the outskirts of Harrogate. There are mixed borders, rock gardens, woodland, foliage, rose, and kitchen gardens.
At this time of year, the perennials in the main borders are beautiful. Here the plants are in such large numbers that they give dazzling blocks of colour. The vegetables, grown on raised beds thrive happily - NOT A SLUG OR SNAIL IN SIGHT.
The area of tall grass where two little girls laughed and tumbled, the heavenly perfume of the old fashioned roses in the scented garden - these are my memories, oh and of course Betty's, Yum!
Three- thirty and time for home, but no coach! The driver had left a message that he was having trouble with our coach and that he was going back to replace it and he would be back by four. . What if he couldn't get back? Where could we find a large coach, with driver, in the Yorkshire countryside willing to take us home?
Then round the corner came our driver with the new coach. Four o'clock and we were on our way home after a most enjoyable outing.
